Botanical trail - Schools

Initiated in 2000 by Mr. Kouami Kokou, a forestry engineer, and implemented by Mr. Jean-François Maillard in 2001, the campus botanical trail is a short route of less than 1km through a coastal forest.

The trail features secondary vegetation, with a mix of forest, savannah and ornamental species. Guided by one of the team's scientists, teachers and elementary school pupils can learn to recognize different tree species and sometimes sample a few fruits.

If they're lucky, they'll come across sloth sheep, agoutis, cayenne rails and several species of ants and other insects.

A small booklet is provided to help recognize the leaves, bark, flowers and seeds.

Visits are by prior arrangement only, and with the agreement of CIRAD, which maintains the trail.

Throughout the year, teachers are welcome to drop by the documentation center to pick up brochures, posters and other media.
